Homeopathy for stress in motherhood
Motherhood transforms us in every possible way — physically, hormonally, emotionally, and even spiritually. It’s a profound shift, yet so often it goes unseen or unspoken, even by those closest to us.
Each stage of our child’s growth brings new joys, but also new challenges — and with every chapter, we’re evolving too. It’s no wonder that, amidst it all, many mothers find themselves feeling overwhelmed, exhausted, and stressed.
In today’s fast-paced world, the pressure to “do and be it all” can feel relentless. Social media, societal expectations, and the idea of the perfect parent all feed into the belief that we should be coping better — smiling more, struggling less. Add to that the realities of broken sleep, challenging behaviours, financial strain, or relationship stress, and it’s the perfect storm for burnout. On top of this, many mothers carry an added weight — guilt and shame over just how hard it all feels.
I want to share with you 4 fantastic remedies which arise over and over again in mothers and often as a direct result of the physical jobs and caring as well as the emotional holding we provide to our children and our young people.
I have prescribed, suggested, taken and shared these remedies so many times with so many women and I hope you or a mother you know can find them useful too.
SEPIA
#1 Worn out mum remedy - Indifference combined with irritability. Takes everything out on children and or partner. Extreme dislike of domestic work, caring work, wants to be left alone and shuns responsibilities. Cries when talking about her troubles and pains but dislikes sympathy. Tendency to overwork then collapses with weight of it all - tendency to feel heaviness and sensation of congestion. Worse; before menstruation, cold, air, early morning and evening. Better; from exercise - running or dancing, sleep, eating.
KALI PHOS

Feels nervous, sensitive, weak - both physically and mentally. Insomnia and inability to relax and rest despite exhaustion. Better; warmth, rest, sleep, leaning against something. Worse; any anxiety, worry or physical exertion.

Single parts/limbs go to sleep. Sensation of emptiness - head. chest, stomach. Backaches. Alternating states and alternates between hunger and loss of apetite. Better; lying quietly, warmth. Worse; exertion, eating, motion, travel, nursing others.
NUX VOM
#1 remedy for busy driven mums who become irritable and sensitive when exhausted - an overactive mind that struggles to switch off, driving them firstly to irritability - impatient and easily angered by others and their interruptions. Also becoming sensitive to noise, odour, light and touch. Exhaustion comes on after periods of intense work and business. Prone to digestive disturbances, headaches, coughs and colds when run down. Better; hot drinks, pressure on parts, short nap. Worse; early morning, stimulants, cold open air, uncovering.
HOW TO TAKE:
Take 1 pillule of 30c once daily during an intense period for up to 3 days, wait a day and then continue for 4 more days if you feel you need it (total maximum of 7 days)
Our children have a way of becoming our greatest teachers.
The pains, the griefs, the shifts, the tender unraveling of ourselves that we experience in motherhood — the symptoms, the states of being, the emotional triggers — they’re not just challenges to endure, but invitations to listen more deeply and act more boldly. They invite us and open the way to a life lived in alignment — one shaped not by perceived perfection, but by presence and purpose.
The remedies above are for short-term stress or overwhelm. If you’re feeling this way often, or it’s been going on for more than a month, it’s a good idea to get support. A professional homeopath can help uncover the root cause and create a personalised treatment plan just for you — tailored to your condition, your energy, and your unique experience.
